Wedding in a Belgium guest house

A few weeks ago, S&V were looking for a photographer to capture their wedding event. It would be a formal ceremony in Luxembourg followed by a family reunion weekend in a remote guest house, Daverdisse, Belgium. They wanted someone to shoot natural moments of life. It would be a simple wedding – with no wedding dress or crazy celebration – so this matched my photojournalistic style perfectly.

Engagement session in Kirchberg

Although it was a small wedding, I always start with an engagement session. It allows me spending time with the bridal couple and get to know each other. This photo-session took place at the Philharmonie, the opera of Luxembourg.

A bus trip from Kirchberg to Hamilius.

We had decided to meet in Kirchberg on the Friday early afternoon in order to take a bus ride to Hamilius. I had never shoot photos on a bus, and the least I can say is that it is very original… and slightly dangerous at times – best not to forget about gripping to something !

Formal ceremony at the Luxembourg city hall, Place Guillaume.

Nous étions en avance et avons donc décidé de faire quelques photos de groupe spontanées. La cérémonie civile terminée, nous nous sommes donné rendez-vous le lendemain à Daverdisse.

We were a bit early so we decided to do a few spontaneous group shots. After the formal ceremony, we said goodbye and parted ways until the next day.

S&V decided to gather with their respective families in Daverdisse, in the province of Namur, Belgium. They had rented a beautiful guest house, which I highly recommend if you want to organize a small wedding with less than thirty guests.

I recently bought a new macro lens, which I used to take a few details shots, including the wedding rings. The wedding took place on the 2nd of April, but since the formal were the day before, S&V had the original idea to offer candies in a sardine-shaped box (a reference to the April’s fool 😉 ^^

In the evening, a group of musician came over and added a nice atmosphere to the night. The singer was a family member and had prepared the nicest setlist of songs, including dancing songs.

For the occasion, I improvised some lightings with the help of my strobes and some coloured gel. Unfortunately I had only taken the blue coloured gel with me. Next time I’ll bring them all !

The wedding photo-session ended there. I spent a great day in Belgium and I’m grateful to S&V for trusting me to capture their wedding day.
